Celebrate Earth Day in Colorado

Earth Day encourages and inspires us honor our planet every day by reminding us the importance of making efforts toward conservation and preservation of our world for current and future generations. Across Colorado, Earth Day events will be happening all weekend long! From North to South, here is your guide to celebrating our beautiful planet this Earth Day in Colorado.

Earth Day – Ft. Collins, Civic Center Park

When: 11 AM – 5PM Saturday, April 22, 2017

Where: Civic Center Park, Ft Collins

Earth Day, a celebration hosted by the Sustainable Living Association, is a combination of activities and events for the entire family, featuring: informational booths and displays, a Kids Zone with arts & crafts, live music, guest speakers, workshops, as well as local food & beer garden! This event is FREE! Donations for the Food Bank will be accepted at the entrance.

Youth of the Earth Festival – Longmont

When: 12 PM – 5PM April 22, 2017

Where: Longmont Museum & Cultural Center

Sustainable Resilient Longmont will be putting on the third annual Youth of the Earth- Earth Day Festival at the Longmont Museum. This year’s event includes a series of presentations and discussions in addition to the Environmental Education booths of years past. There will be a series of presentations, discussions, and films in the Stewart Auditorium geared toward adults, while the Kaiser Permanente Rooms will house hands-on activities and performances geared toward kids, youth and young adults. Wild Earth Day – Keenesburg

When: 9AM – Sunset April 22, 2017

Where: Wild Animal Sanctuary, Keenesburg

Celebrate Wild Earth Day at the Wild Animal Sanctuary with arts, crafts, vendors, and special food. than 450 of the wildest friends you could ever have! Visitors are invited to bring potted trees, shrubs, or plants to donate to the animals. Sanctuary staff will utilize whatever you donate to embellish one or more of the 60+ habitats that we currently have. The donations of natural plants aren’t mandatory, but are greatly appreciated. Each person who brings a tree / plant will be granted FREE admission to the Sanctuary walkway. Suggested Plants for Donation: Cottonwood Trees, Eastern Red Cedar (Evergreen), Lilac Bushes, Sand Cherries. Participants will receive a free custom-printed “Earth Day” shirt.

B’Earth Day – Alfalfa’s, Boulder

Where: Alfalfa’s Market (Boulder)

Alfalfa’s is hosting the 6th Annual B’Earthday Party, celebrating Boulder’s commitment to sustainability and community. Free cake, outdoor grilling, & tons of free samples from over 30 local vendors! Live DJ, Sustainable Artists, and a chance to WIN A FREE BIKE! BYOT (Bring Your Own Tee) for printmaking fun with Flatiron Press. All T-Shirt proceeds benefit the Colorado Tree Coalition. This event is FREE.

Wild Earth Weekend – Nederland

Where: The Wild Bear Nature Center, Nederland

At Wild Earth Weekend, visitors to the nature center will engage in educational booths and activities focused on nature and living lightly on the planet. Activities include performances and puppet shows about the planet, booths with hands-on activities about the natural world and how we can live more lightly on the planet!  See this link for a complete program. RIDE YOUR BIKE, RIDE THE BUS, WALK or CARPOOL! Visit Wild Bear Nature Center throughout the weekend and enjoy hands-on educational activities with some of your favorite earth organizations! This event is FREE.

Earth Day Denver – Denver

When: 10 AM – 12 PM FRIDAY, April 21, 2017

Where: Skyline Park, Denver

As a reminder of Denver’s commitment to sustainability, Denver Environmental Health will be hosting Earth Day Denver on Friday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Skyline Park. This year, over 40 businesses, city agencies and organizations will present interactive and educational displays that demonstrate actions that can be taken to make Denver a greener place to live, work and play. This event is kid-friendly, and FREE to the community!

Earth Day Celebration – Colorado Springs

Where: Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center, Colorado Springs

Garden of the Gods is hosting its biggest Earth Day Celebration ever, with new partners and activities! The 20th Annual Earth Day Celebration features a variety of fun activities, arts, crafts, hands-on touch tables, and presentations. Highlights include a chemical magic show, live animals including llamas, wolves, birds of prey, and zoo animals, American Indian dancers and even a climbing wall! There will be a volunteer park clean-up (registration begins at 8:30 AM) with a free lunch for volunteers. This event is FREE.

 

March for Science – Throughout the State!

Where: These Colorado CitiesAspen, Avon, Breckenridge, Carbondale, Colorado Springs, Denver, Estes Park, Grand Junction, Gunnison, La Junta & Telluride.

The March for Science is a series of rallies and marches set to be held in Washington, D.C. and over 500 cities across the world on Earth Day, April 22, 2017. The march is a non-partisan movement to celebrate science and the role it plays in everyday lives. The main goals of the march and rally are to call for science that upholds the common good and to call for evidence-based policy in the public’s best interest.
